Dreams come true... i was able to pet this calm and docile owl, Snowman, on the belly. https://flic.kr/p/243SaXQ .The first owl I held, Tamanegi (Spring Onion) was very cute, but agitated.

We are in Nara right now after a couple days in Tokyo. Despite my best efforts, I still seem to have come down with something :(. Symptoms aren't too bad today, but probably will be worse over the next few days...

I can't do embedded posts nor do I have the time to update, so that's all for now. Hope everyone is doing well!

my kitteh

Just a cute/funny video of Hissy where it shows just how much she loves my dirty undergarments. Sometimes she gets so excited about my scent that she likes to bury her cute head into my armpit and do something similar... that tickles, silly cat!

Our friends

So there is no way to embed a photo through mobile flickr. I have to upload it on my phone, then do it through a computer. With instagram, it works only if you do it through a mobile browser and not through the app. So annoying...

Anyway, i wanted to share with everyone our little friends we take care of. Not all of them are named, but they all know us. Most of them are very feral and think of us as those big animals who feed them, but some are friendlier than others. Over the next few days or so I'll be sharing their photos and personalities. Most of them are fixed. Those that aren't are either not around a lot, or I worry the neighbors will complain. Not the idiot nasty one who says all the ferals are hers, but other nicer neighbors who take care of a bunch of tabbies. So far, I've fixed 16 of them.

Happy New Year!

It's been a while, hope everyone is doing well! I normally update at work, but the few weeks before vacation I've been busy scrambling to make my goals on updating our website, which is looking better and better every day. I got a whole bunch of stuff up there now. Work is ok otherwise, boss hasn't been too annoying lately.

I'm still on vacation until the 3rd while Justin is visiting his family in Florida. We had a nice family trip to Vail, but the day we came back, we had to put our dog down and it's really put a damper on things.

The day my parents left for vacation, they noticed that his legs had been giving out. He would lose control of his back legs, then be able to hobble around a bit, then lose control again. The same thing happened to our first dog, Weisse. The condition is called spinal myelopathy. Weisse started suffering from symptoms when he was around 9 or 10 years old, and then was able to live with the condition until he totally lost control of his back legs when he was 13 and was put down. The difference with Burns was night and day... literally one minute he was playing in the back yard, and the next he couldn't walk anymore.

We picked up up from the kennel and his breeder said he was doing very badly. He was turned around in the kennel and my dad called to him. He didn't respond at first, but then tried to make his way to us by dragging his legs . He could barely turn around. It was the saddest thing I've ever seen and the image will stay with me for the rest of my life. He couldn't hold his urine and peed all over dad. I knew we had to put him down, so we immediately went to the vet. Burns was 10 years old, which is on the lower side of his life expectancy as a German Shepherd. I think Weisse made it to 13 years because he was way smaller, about half the size of Burns.

Burns was a mean dog, but we loved him very much. He had 4 biting incidents, one of which caused my family 1000 dollars. He had a very good life, because if he were in any other family, he may have been put down. He was fed two special meals a day consisting of raw meat and vegetables prepared and until his sudden disease, he was healthy. He was walked twice a day every day and while he was kind of lazy, he was doted on a lot and really had a great life. My parents took great care of him and would always call on my grandma to take care of him while they were on vacation. He was rarely kenneled except for this last trip because for part of it we visited grandma in Colorado.

Guh not entirely happy being back at work after having a week off.

Justin and I finally watched "Your Name". I realize I get Makoto Shinkai confused with another director, Mamoru Hosada who did Wolf Children, Girl Who Lept Through Time, and Summer Wars. Shinkai has done 5 cm per Second, Hoshi no Koe, and Your Name. I realize I haven't watched as many of Shinkai's features as I thought. My favorite is Hoshi no Koe, but Your Name is just so good, it actually might be better. Man I remember when I watched Hoshi no Koe back in 2003. It was an amazing 30 min (or maybe a little less) flick that he did entirely on his own. He made it on his Macintosh back in 2000 and provided the voice for the male character while his wife was the female character. Later, the voices were changed for the version most people have seen. I really fell in love with it, and he's done a lot since, but not until Your Name did anything truly contend with the brilliance of Hoshi no Koe. Your Name was just so stunning, it didn't fail to disappoint. I can't wait to see what Hosada and Shinkai do next.

However, I heard that J.J. Abrams was doing a live action American version of Your Name. Ugh that sounds so awful, I hope it gets shelved. I mean honestly there are excellent American versions of mangas, but they are few and far between. The only one I can think of right off the top of my head is "Edge of Tomorrow". J.J. Abrams is known for doing super action-filled space operas. Your Name is not anything like that! People just need to... not try to remake things.

I've been obsessed with the new Animal Crossing cellphone game "Pocket Camp". Are any of you playing that? I've actually never played Animal Crossing before. I tried one of the games on the DS too... I think it bores me. The cellphone game is all about fetch quests. It's addictive. I heard it maxes out at level 30 though, and just from playing this weekend I'm almost at level 30. I guess I'll stop until they make more levels lol.

This is kind of detailed and gross so if you don't want to read about my cat's poop problems, I suggest avoiding this post lol.

my kitty's bad poopy morningCollapse )

Well happy Thanksgiving everyone. I'm making one of my dishes early- the cherry pie. I'll let you all know how it goes. I've never made cherry pie before and I'm excited. Cherry pie is my favorite! Last Thanksgiving I got horribly food-poisoned, so I hope it doesn't happen again this year! I think it may have been the green bean casserole so I'm not making that again this year.

Anyone want a kitty?

Thank you everyone for your support messages about the fire. The fire continues to not be contained, and a second fire is set to possibly engulf another neighborhood in my hometown. My parents' house is still ok, fire isn't that close to them... still close, but it seems like their neighborhood was spared. They still have no power at the house and probably won't for at least a week, possibly 2 weeks.

I'm fostering this little kitten. She is adorable. I already have some interest in her, but it's tough to get someone to adopt a cat out here because people just don't spay/neuter their cats so we have an enormous feral cat problem. I did have to have her ear clipped. It's because I wasn't sure if I could ever adopt her, and the vet wouldn't do her spay for free unless her ear got clipped to indicate her as a "feral". She is far from feral. Actually my nightmare right now is that my crazy be-otch neighbor will be inquiring about "her cat" and what I did to it. Ugh. Anyway, my coworker is interested in adopting her. She has one dog, and the dog is uneasy around cats, so that might be an issue. I told her that it takes a little time, and it's actually good that he's uneasy because the cat will probably be uneasy with him and it's good they maintain their distance for a while if she does choose to adopt her. I'm crossing my fingers it will work out. Also I've solicited the Humane Society to help me with some posters I can stick up around town.

She is a great little pet. She is very attached to me and cries when I am separated from her. I spent the entire day with her yesterday, but it's like, I gotta go to work, so she'll have to get used to being separated from me. She sleeps right beside me and doesn't really bother me. I accidentally rolled into her last night and she meowed. Poor kitty. I will have a hard time parting with her, but there are just SO many feral kitties out here on my hill and I'm anxious to at least have her go to a good home because she's literally the only one who is a good pet. The others are way too feral, and even if they are sweet to us, they HATE being indoors. She has taken to being indoors remarkably well. She's still little. Only 4-5 months old.

Continuing music meme

Music memes are pretty much the only thing that will get me to update on a quasi-regular basis... until I'm done with them!

5. A song that needs to be played LOUD

Last time I did one of these, I listed "Tarzan Boy" by Baltimora. That is the only song that I always turn loud when it comes on the radio, but these days I'll never hear it because it only played on New Wave Night on this one station in California, and there is literally one station down here that plays music lol. Anyway, I'll just go with my favorite song, "If You Leave", by OMD... which I think I used for another question in another meme...

1. A song you like with a colour in the title

This goes without saying, the brilliance that is Prince's "Purple Rain". This is my favorite performance, at the 2007 Superbowl. So amazing. Ok I don't know why I redid this one, but uh... this is a great one too!

6. A song that makes you want to dance

Taio Cruz- Dynamite

Kind of a bad song, but very catchy and fun.

7. A song to drive to

When Justin and I take roadtrips, and these days going anywhere out here is a road trip, we listen to all the great Pink Floyd Albums. For some reason, "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" seems to remind me of that the most. Wish You Were Here and Dark Side of the Moon are my favorite albums.

8. A song about drugs or alcohol

Oh my favorite one is definitely Smoke 2 Joints by the Toyes. I smoke two joints when I play video game, and at every ten thousand points hehehe . A local station in California played this every day at 4:20 pm.

all of themCollapse )

Not much to report here. Seems like I'll be away from work a lot this month. I have a conference I'm going to up in Fayetteville Arkansas so I'll be out 3 days, then I'm out next Monday because I need time to work on my term paper, and there's Memorial Day.
