19. Song you think is overplayed/overhyped

Bon Jovi- Livin' on a Prayer. This song was voted as VH1's #1 song of the 80s. I remember watching the countdown something like 14 years ago now. It's played a whole lot, and it's fun song. Justin really hates Bon Jovi, I don't even really understand the reason. I think it's that "Cowboy" song that he especially hates. But I dunno 80s hair bands aren't everyone's thing. I think maybe "Bohemian Rhapsody" would have been a good choice here. I actually like Livin' on a Prayer more than Bohemian Rhapsody, I know, travesty.

20. Song you know is overplayed/ overhyped but you dont care because you love it.

And keeping to the "prayer" thing...

I really like this Madonna song, it's probably been overplayed the most out of all her hits. It's just really pretty and I like how "scandalous" the music video is.

21. Song you remember was overplayed at a particular time but no longer is.

I think it was some Janet Jackson song from my youth which I remember hearing on the radio on a daily basis.

Together Forever-

Although it says this song came out in 1997 and the song that I'm thinking about way earlier than that, but I guess this works too because they don't play this song much anymore.

I'm actually looking forward to this week because again Supervisor will be out for all of it except for today. Already she's irritated me with something today because first thing she was asking if she could put this collection she's getting underneath the other set of processing tables across from me. There is really no where else for it to go. Everything has to sit on the floor somewhere because she's gathered so much crap that there is 0 shelf space for it and I constantly have to be moving boxes to get to other boxes and folders. She actually was supposed to view this collection in Austin and pick the stuff that was to come here, but no plans changed and it's all coming here. It has something to do with this Texas Park Ranger's materials. I feel like 90 percent of it will be garbage that should go into the dumpster, but any time anything makes its way in here, it NEVER leaves. It's going to go sit on the floor right next to these cut up newspapers from around 2014. They are duplicates of ones we have in our collections. I keep telling myself that soon it won't be my problem and I will never have to deal with it again, but it's like I haven't had a job offer yet.

A lot of this weekend was dedicated to cleaning and I will admit that Justin did a lot more of it than me, but it's because he had to clean his room and he had a LOT to clean in there. New rental manager is coming over today to do an inspection/walk through. He complained that I did nothing, and maybe it felt like nothing compared to him, but I don't keep my room as a trash pile, so whatever. We argued again this morning because again he took forever walking out the door and made us late yet again. I am so tired of him doing this. I need to actually enact my threat of leaving him to walk to work.

Diet is ok. I don't think I did great last week so I didn't really lose weight. No gain though, so that's nice. I'm afraid it will be the same this week because of my trip, so I'm going to try extra hard not to break my diet today- Thurs.

Yeah, Livin on a Prayer does get overplayed a lot :/
Jan. 15th, 2019 06:25 pm (UTC)
Oh yeah, I constantly hear it when I listen to the regular radio, and just in general all over the place.

I have to agree with your choices. :)

Not gaining is still something!

I'm looking forward to your next round of songs, whenever you get around to it ^_^ (or if you don't, that's ok too). It's always interesting to learn about peoples' taste in music, even if it wildly differs from my own.

I definitely plan on continuing the meme. :)

Oh God, Livin' On A Prayer. It is sooo overplayed. It's one of those songs that Uni clubs nights or weddings Djs play all of the time. Like, there is so much music out there (especially decent 80s stuff) that there is no excuse for DJs or the general public to be so basic and unoriginal.

Like A Prayer on the other hand will never get old no matter how many times I hear it. But then I do love Madonna.

My husband says that Janet Jackson doesn't get the credit she deserves and he's totally right. So. Many. Amazing. Hits. I'm pleasantly surprised by the amount of artists I see that reference The Velvet Rope as a big fave though so she's probably more influential than I realise.
Jan. 15th, 2019 06:24 pm (UTC)
Haha, yeah I think that there are other artists who would better deserve to get the title of "best song of the 80s" than Bon Jovi. Maybe Prince or Michael Jackson, or someone who wasn't part of a hair band. The song is still fun, though, so I'll give it that.

I agree with your husband. I think people don't give Janet enough credit because she is compared with Michael a lot and his vocals are a lot stronger, however she is still very talented in her own right. She does a lot with her choreography and even if her vocal range isn't very wide, she still does a lot with the range she has.

The other thing about Janet is that she was so much more prolific than Michael. I have a 2CD Best Of and it is banger after banger. It's so brilliant. I read a great article on recording of Scream and Michael and Janet would come into the studio without the other one knowing, just to re-record their vocals to be better than the other. They both had such drive to create amazing music and I think that Michael gets that credit whereas Janet seems a little serious and poppy maybe?
Jan. 16th, 2019 01:51 am (UTC)
hehe "serious" and "poppy" sound like polar opposites, but I think it is a good way to describe her. I think she's just about as poppy as Michael, and they sound alike in so many ways. That is very interesting that you would consider her more prolific. I'm pretty sure that she will outlive Michael at this point so it will be interesting to see how she continues her career in the future.
Jan. 16th, 2019 07:01 pm (UTC)
I meant to write 'not serious' but my mistake does kind of work!

Bohemian Rhapsody 100% could not have been top song of the 80's. It came out in 1975 xD
Jan. 21st, 2019 07:29 am (UTC)
I mean that I was thinking about using Bohemian Rhapsody as an answer to "Song you think is overplayed/overhyped" because I think it's just about as overplayed as "Livin' on a Prayer"
Jan. 21st, 2019 08:52 am (UTC)
Oh! Now I gotcha!

Queen certainly did lots of music in the 80's so I have heard people lump it into the 80's before. I super don't actually like the 80's meanwhile. I'm not sure there can be too much overplaying of that song xD

Now "Never Gonna Give You Up" on the other hand. I swear half the time if I hear actual radio I am being Rickrolled.
